Stocks were higher near midday on Wednesday, though off their best levels of the day, during the week’s final full trading session for U.S. investors.
Near 12:35 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the S&P 500 was up 0.2%, the Dow was unchanged, and the Nasdaq was higher by 0.5%. Earlier in the session the Nasdaq had been up by as much as 1%.
The biggest move in markets on Wednesday was coming from energy markets, with the price of WTI crude oil down nearly 5%, falling as much as 4.7% in midday trade to as low as $77.10 a barrel.
U.S. markets will be closed for Thanksgiving, and markets are open for just a half day on Black Friday.
The move higher in stocks comes amid a busy day for economic data, with reads on the labor market, housing market, and manufacturing sector all coming out early Wednesday.
